About Me

Sarah Montañez is a photographer and intermedia artist currently based in Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds BFA in Photography with a minor in Art History from Indiana University - Indianapolis’ Herron School of Art and Design. Originally born and raised in Puerto Rico, she also touches on her evolving relationship with time and place, as well as her longing for home. Sarah explores generational trauma, grief, loss through analog photography, and the complexity and tension present in familial relationships through found images and video. Sarah has worked as a Spring Intern at Aurora PhotoCenter, Indianapolis’ only photography gallery and workspace, and has also worked for Big Car Collaborative’s creative placemaking project, SPARK on the Circle. She recently presented her thesis work at Aurora PhotoCenter’s group exhibition, Heart’s Content.
